AutoCAD 2016 Dimension Layer
Posted on June 16, 2015 by Darin Green, Synergis Lead Product Support Specialist:
With the release of base AutoCAD 2016 products, Autodesk introduced a new way for CAD Managers to enforce standards. This enhancement is the new DIMLAYER tool.
This only works when using the new DIM tool. It will not work using the other dimensions tools (i.e. Dim Linear, Dim Angular, etc.)
The DIMLAYER variable forces new dimensions to a specified layer.
Type the variable into the command line and specify a default layer for new dimensions
If the layer doesn’t exist, it will create a new layer automatically without prompting you.
If the layer exists and you type that layer name using a different case. The case will automatically get corrected.
Once you enter the new layer name, all new dimensions will be created on that layer (using the DIM tool).
